Why should we back?
Intro
Welcome to KickstartNew! Today I’m excited to introduce Mirumi: A Charm Robot that Steals a Glance—and Your Heart by Yukai Engineering. Launched on Kickstarter in December 2025, Mirumi is a small, fluffy “charm robot” that clips onto a bag or strap and interacts with the world through curious head turns and shy reactions. Instead of doing chores or playing music, Mirumi aims to bring tiny moments of delight, surprise, and emotional warmth into everyday life.

Why should I back this project?
-
Emotional charm: Mirumi uses sensors to detect motion or nearby people and responds with head tilts, shy gazes, or bashful reactions — a gesture design meant to evoke a sense of wonder and nostalgia.
-
Portable companionship: Its clip-on arms allow you to attach it to bags, backpacks, or straps, letting Mirumi accompany you in daily commutes, trips, or errands — giving you a little “companion” wherever you go.
-
Conversation starter & joy-bringer: Mirumi is crafted to spark smiles and interactions: its cute, shy behavior tends to draw reactions from passersby, turning mundane outings into moments of shared lightheartedness.
-
Affordable novelty: The Kickstarter pledge price is discounted compared to expected retail, making it a relatively low-cost way to own a whimsical, design-oriented robot rather than an expensive, function-loaded gadget.

What are the potential drawbacks you should consider when you back it?
-
Limited functionality: Mirumi doesn’t perform practical tasks — no cleaning, no smart-home integration, nothing but simple head movement and “emotional” reactions. It’s strictly a charm item, which may feel gimmicky to those expecting a functional robot.
-
Subjective appeal: Its value depends heavily on how much you appreciate cute, quirky design and emotional interactivity. If you prefer gadgets with clear utility, Mirumi may end up as a novelty that loses charm over time.
-
Dependence on context: The joy Mirumi brings might come mostly from social interactions (others reacting to it). If you rarely go out or use bags/transportation, you may rarely see its “magic.”
-
Crowdfunding uncertainty: As with any Kickstarter project, there remains risk of delays, production issues, or final product differing somewhat from demo prototypes and promises.

The reliability of the project
-
Strong backing and clear demand: As of now, Mirumi’s campaign has far surpassed its funding goal — showing strong backer interest and suggesting sufficient budget for production.
-
Established creator with precedent: Yukai Engineering has a track record of creating whimsical robotic companions (previous projects include a robotic pillow-cat), which lends some credibility to their design and manufacturing capabilities.
-
Simple design simplicity: Because Mirumi’s behavior is based on basic sensors and motion rather than complex AI or heavy-duty robotics, there is less risk of software bugs or mechanical breakdowns compared to high-complexity robots.
-
Real-world demonstrations: Mirumi was showcased at a major tech event (CES 2025), where attendees could see and interact with prototypes — suggesting the product is more than just conceptual art.
